Eight Goals of our Parish
Sunday Eucharist - The Church teaches that the Eucharist is the source of summit of our life. We draw strength from the Bread of Life. We ascend the heights of heaven, giving praise and thanks to God in company with the Saints. Without Sunday Mass our parish would have no reason to exist. Our contact with Christ in Sacred Scripture and the Blessed Sacrament should be paramount in our lives and be prescriptive for our life the rest of the week. If we do nothing else, we must come together as a family of God on Sunday in praise and thanks to God. In fact, nothing else is worthwhile nor will it succeed unless we fulfill our beautiful obligation to celebrate the Lord’s Day. Faith Formation of our Youth – We will invest in our Parish School and Religious Education. Our faith is a precious heritage. We have received it from Christ and those who have gone before us. We must pass on what is most precious to the next generation. As a parish we will always invest in the faith of our future generations by both a day school and an evening school of faith formation. Our purpose is never to take the place of parents in teaching the faith to their children but to assist them in this most holy duty. As Pope John Paul II has taught, the family is the first school of life and love. Sacramental Life of the Church - Jesus Christ not only gave us the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist but six other Sacraments that enable us to experience His life and love in so many ways: Baptism, Confirmation, Reconciliation, Anointing of the Sick, Matrimony and Ordination. Thorough preparation and ongoing education increases our understanding of these Sacraments and enable us to utilize in everyday life the graces they offer. Buildings and Grounds - We need to maintain and provide the structures that encourage parish life and mission. Fellowship/Friendship in Christ – Both original parishes of St. Martin and St. Walburga have long histories of vibrant fellowship. Mary, Queen of Peace needs to continue this rich tradition of creating an extended family of Brothers and Sisters in Christ. Authentic friendships are essential to mutual care and support that encompasses every human and spiritual need. Evangelization is best done in this context of Christian Friendship: Make a friend, be a friend, bring a friend to Jesus. Parishioner Participation - Parishioners participate in the mission of the parish through gifts of time, talent and treasure. Parishioners should prayerfully reflect on how God wants them to use their gifts, especially by being involved in parish apostolic activities. This is measured not only by the number of volunteers at parish events or participants in parish programs but the fact that each one of us chooses to consciously and constantly bring the love, truth, justice and peace of Christ into every aspect of life. In imitation of Christ, we seek especially to put our love and faith in action toward those most vulnerable and in need. Youth Apostolates – Our young men and women of the parish need not only to be educated about our faith but mentored as they become Godly and virtuous. We must help them discover their self-identity as brothers and sisters of Jesus Christ and discover the God given meaning of life. We best find ourselves when we reach out to others selflessly; hence, it is imperative that we provide our young people with spiritually healthy activities and service opportunities. Adult Faith Formation – As a parish we will seek life-long spiritual learning through Bible Studies, conferences, guest speakers and other forms of continuing education. |
